SAN JOSE, CA, UNITED STATES, October 20, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Abacus Semiconductor Corporation, a leader in energy-efficient compute architectures for high-performance computing and artificial intelligence, today announced a partnership with Aalto University’s School of Electrical Engineering for research cooperation in integrated-circuit design connected to its Universal High Speed Interconnect™ (UHI) chiplet program. The cooperation was facilitated by Business Finland and its Invest in Finland function as part of Abacus Semiconductor’s efforts to establish semiconductor research and development activity in Finland.
“Aalto’s School of Electrical Engineering has a strong tradition in high-speed and mixed-signal circuit design, which is the demanding core of any high-bandwidth interconnect,” said Dr. Axel Kloth, Founder and CEO of Abacus Semiconductor. “We look forward to exploring how we can work together, and to having our architecture validated by our Finnish partners.”
“Finland has a strong and closely connected community in high-speed integrated-circuit design, and Aalto is at the center of it,” said Atilla Karaali, Senior Director of Global Business Development at Abacus Semiconductor, who leads the company’s European partnerships. “This letter of intent is the first formal step in the Finnish research cooperation we have been building since the summer.”
“High-speed serial links are one of the crucial focus areas of microelectronics design activities at our department, and we intend to intensify and extend our future developments around them, combined with our ongoing processor developments — for chiplet interconnects such as UHI and for the coming generations of Ethernet at 800 Gbit/s and beyond. Abacus Semiconductor brings a concrete design target on the mixed-signal and analog side, which is exactly the kind of industrial problem our researchers and students should be working on,” said Professor Marko Kosunen, Department of Electronics and Nanoengineering, Aalto University.
Jöns Tuomaranta, Senior Advisor, Invest in Finland, adds, “Energy-efficient and low-power computing, together with high-speed interconnect design, lies at the heart of Finland’s strengths — from world-class integrated-circuit design research at Finnish universities and VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland to an industrial base built on decades of leadership in wireless and radio-frequency technologies. We were glad to bring Abacus Semiconductor and Aalto University together and Invest in Finland will continue to support Abacus Semiconductor as it evaluates building a semiconductor R&D presence in Finland.”
