Lafayette, IN, October 23, 2026 —
Bodycam video has been released showing the moments leading up to an officer’s shooting of a pet donkey in Cedartown, Georgia, during a police search for a missing child.
The donkey, named HeeHaw, was killed by the officer, according to the available account. The donkey’s owner disputes the officer’s account of the encounter, saying HeeHaw posed no threat and was approaching in a friendly manner.
The released footage is described as showing the moments before the shooting. The information provided does not detail what the video depicts or establish whether it supports either account of the donkey’s behavior. The owner’s description is an account of the incident, not an independently verified finding.
Further details about the encounter were not provided, including when it occurred, the officer’s identity, the police agency involved and the circumstances that led to the shooting. It was also not stated whether the officer or department has made a public comment, or whether an investigation or review is underway.
The search for a missing child was the reason police were in the area, but no information was provided about the child’s identity or the outcome of the search. The available account also does not say whether anyone else was injured or what happened after the shooting.
As described, the central dispute is between the officer’s account and the owner’s characterization of HeeHaw’s approach. The released bodycam video may provide a record of the moments leading up to the shooting, but the details available here do not include its contents or any official conclusions about the incident.
